Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said that we must always remember the social reformer Basavanna, who, as early as the 12th century, raised his voice against the caste system and superstitions while striving to build a new society.

Speaking after inaugurating the Basava Jayanti celebrations at Kalamandira in Mysuru, Mr. Siddaramaiah said Basavanna rejected the deeply entrenched caste system and propagated the noble message that “we must first live as human beings.”
