Writer Baragur Ramachandrappa inaugurated the film festival as part of Bahuroopi 2026 at Rangayana in Mysuru on January 11.

While the silver jubilee edition of the national theatre festival titled ‘Bahuroopi Baba Saheb – March Towards Equality’ will be formally inaugurated on January 12, Mr. Ramachandrappa, in his address, emphasised the need to determine the connection between cinema, which is a mass media in the country, democracy, and the Constitution.

Recalling Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s speech on November 25, 1949, when he mentioned three democracies — political democracy, economic democracy, and social democracy, Mr. Ramachandrappa said Ambedkar had pointed out that political and economic democracies complemented each other, but felt that social democracy should be prioritised.

While film festival convenor K. Manu delivered the keynote address, Karnataka Nataka Academy chairman K.V. Nagarajamurthy, Rangayana director Satish Tiptur, and others were also present on the occasion.
