Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a mental health condition largely associated with high levels of impulsivity and risk-taking behaviour, coupled with an unstable sense of self, extreme mood swings, and fear of abandonment.

Persons with this condition may find day-to-day functioning hard, because their actions are governed by intense emotions, often without much thought about consequences, thereby disrupting relationships, work, and social life.
