BC Welfare Minister S. Savitha said the State government was committed to the development of BCs. She said that their empowerment of BCs was possible only through education.

Ms. Savitha participated in the State-level official birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Vadde Obanna in Anantapur on Sunday. She said that Vadde Obanna had fought against the British even before the Independence struggle started in the country. The Minister welcomed the State government’s decision to officially celebrate the 129th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter.

She said that TDP founder and former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao and present CM N. Chandrababu Naidu strove for the welfare and empowerment of BCs. Ms. Savitha said that IT Minister Nara Lokesh, during his Yuva Galam Padayatra before the elections had promised to take steps for the welfare of BCs, and was instrumental in the government issuing a G.O to celebrate Vadde Obanna’s birth anniversary as a State function.

Anantapur MP G. Lakshminarayana said Vadde Obanna had fought valiantly against the oppression of Britishers and exploitation of the farmers by the rulers.
