MANJUNATH Expressing unhappiness over the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) not removing encroachments upon its land on the sides of national highways, MP for Dakshina Kannada Capt. Brijesh Chowta on Tuesday instructed NHAI to take the help of the police and local bodies and remove them. Speaking at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting, Capt. Chowta said that such structures and shops posed a threat to the smooth flow of traffic. There are a number of such structures between Pumpwell and Thokkottu and between Pumpwell and B.C. Road especially at Farangipet. The NHAI should coordinate with the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) and the police to remove such encroachments on the highways within the jurisdiction of the MCC, he said.
