MURALI KUMAR The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) on Friday approved an effective 56 paise per unit increase in electricity charges, with consumers to pay for a ‘revenue gap’ from power they had already consumed in 2024-25, as Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) moves to recover ₹2,068.38 crore. The commission clarified that this is not a tariff hike, but a “true-up” exercise carried out after assessing the revenue deficit for 2024-25, and the amount will be added to monthly bills from May 2026. True-up is a mechanism where electricity companies settle past under- or over-recovery by adjusting future bills.
