Constituency Watch – Madurai North | Photo Credit: Rajesh R A high-density urban Assembly segment, Madurai North, established in 2009 following delimitation, comes with its share of issues, including lopsided development. The AIADMK has an edge as it won the seat in 2011 and 2016, and this time, there is an anti-incumbency factor that may play a role in its favour. In 2021, G. Thalapathy (DMK) won by a margin of 22,916 votes. A drive through the main thoroughfares shows passable roads, with encroachments having been removed in many places. Work on desilting Pandalkudi Canal is on, while rejuvenation of Sellur Tank lies half-finished. Many roads in Tahsildar Nagar have been paved, while others have missed the bandwagon. In some areas, UGD work is over, while in other places it lies unfinished. In some areas, the Corporation water supply has reached households while in areas like Bharat Nagar in Kodikulam, connections have not been given.
