The long-cherished dream of Manavalan Nagar residents to witness the restoration of Vengathur lake, located close to Cooum river, has come true. The sustained collaborative efforts of the residents with voluntary organisation have revived the water body into a rich groundwater source. The seeds of awareness on restoring the water body were sown in 2019 when the lake went dry and groundwater table depleted rapidly. Now, Vengathur lake, spread over 300 acres, has water during peak summer days following concerted efforts by Manavala Nagar Residents Welfare Association and Care Earth Trust, a city-based biodiversity organisation.
