DMK senior leader and Minister for Natural Resources S. Regupathy on Sunday termed the AIADMK-BJP’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as a “weak” combine. Even in case of more parties joining that combine, it would not affect the DMK-led secular alliance in any way, he said.

According to Mr. Regupathy, the people desired that the DMK government should continue and more benefits should come to them through it as it had implemented several promises and executed welfare schemes in the last five years. Neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor others could understand the desire of the people of Tamil Nadu, he added.

Mr. Regupathy told presspersons in Pudukottai that the countdown had begun for the victory of the DMK. Replying to a recent comment by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami that the upcoming 2026 Assembly election would be the last one for the DMK, Mr. Regupathy said Mr. Palaniswami had faced several defeats in the past and he would face one in the 2026 polls as well.

Mr. Regupathy said the DMK’s rule in Tamil Nadu was “strong and unshakeable” and exuded confidence that it would emerge victorious again.

Asked whether the allegations levelled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the DMK government during a recent meeting at Madurantakam would make an impact in the forthcoming election, Mr. Regupathy said how much ever the Prime Minister spoke keeping in mind the election it would not reflect during polls. “People of Tamil Nadu are intelligent as they know what is good and what is bad for them. They know which government would help them.”
