As part of the ongoing prison reforms special drive, prison officials on Saturday conducted a surprise inspection at the Parappana Agrahara central prison and recovered eight mobile phones, seven SIM cards, and other prohibited items. Officials said the eight mobile phones seized during the inspection form part of the total 142 mobile phones recovered so far under the special drive, which has been under way since November 26. Since November 11, authorities have registered 28 FIRs in connection with the recovery of banned items from prisons. According to officials, the prohibited articles were illegally smuggled into the prison and used by inmates with the assistance of others. Based on the latest seizure, a case has been registered at the Parappana Agrahara police station under Section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons and Correctional Services Act, 2022, along with other relevant provisions.
