I once met a Uruguayan football coach who told me this about Brazilian teams: “Sometimes even coaches don’t understand what the players are doing on the field. Some of the passes and formations go beyond what the coach had drilled into the team, but these succeed spectacularly. And the coach takes the credit without quite knowing how it all happened.” I sense something similar is happening in the IPL. Watch some of the youngsters, and you wonder how they do some of the things they do even after hours of practising hitting the ball into the stands. I suspect we shall soon see the rules tweaked to give the bowlers a better chance in the format.
