Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department J. Jayakanthan inspected the works on the Aliyalam irrigation project and the Ennekolputhur irrigation project here on Thursday (January 29, 2026). The Aliyalam irrigation project envisions harvesting run off from River Thenpennai through the right canal and fill up the lakes of Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri to combat drought during lean season. The project is being implemented at cost of ₹47.36 crore. Mr. Jayakanthan inspected the land acquisition for the project. He also inspected the Ennekolputhur irrigation project that is being implemented at ₹274 crore. The scheme envisions new supply canals at Ennekolputhu check dam to harvest excess waters of the Thenpennai to meet the water needs of the two districts.
