Farmers in Tiruppur district are relieved as the water level in Amaravathi Dam is sufficient for maintaining continuous flow till the end of January, for completion of the crop season.

Adequacy of accrual from the south-west and north-east monsoon months has ensured enough storage in the dam for the cultivation season for the second consecutive year.

Farmers cultivate sugarcane, paddy, coconut, maize, groundnut, and other dry crops in the command area encompassing 47,117 acres in Dharapuram, Karur and Aravakurachi taluks in Tiruppur and Karur districts.

By the end of January 2026, the Water Resource Department is looking forward to completing the targeted release of 6894.72 mcft of water. The water release was initiated on September 20 last year, according to official records.

On Sunday (January 11, 2026), water level in Amaravathi Dam was at 76.84 feet as against 90 feet maximum height. The storage was 2919 mcft out of the maximum holding capacity of 4047 mcft.

The flow into Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) Main Canal from Thirumoorthy Dam was maintained till December 24.

Water to the extent of 10,250 mcft was released with intervals over a five month-period since July 27 for cultivation in the fourth zone.

In Thirumoorthy Dam, the level was 45.07 feet on Sunday against the maximum height of 60 feet, and the storage was at 1141 mcft out of the maximum capacity of 1744 mcft.
