Visakhapatnam city police swiftly detained a man accused of assaulting and abusing a woman at Jagadamba Junction two days ago, following her social media post and a police complaint. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu praised the prompt action taken by the police. A preliminary inquiry found that the man was mentally unstable. After consultations, the police arranged for his medical treatment, and the woman, identified as Vijayadurga, chose not to file a case. The Chief Minister said the swift response reflected the strict law and order prevailing in Visakhapatnam and reiterated that the Andhra Pradesh police were committed to public safety. He said the city stood first in the country in terms of women’s safety. He also directed officials to act against those attempting to politicise such incidents to malign the government or damage the city’s image.
