In a bid to upgrade roads, drainage systems, and civic amenities in the trans-Yamuna region, projects worth ₹728 crore were approved at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday.

The approval came during the first meeting of the reconstituted Trans Yamuna Area Development Board (TYADB) at the Delhi Secretariat. The meeting was attended by Law Minister Kapil Mishra, TYADB chairman and BJP legislator Arvinder Singh Lovely, and other board members.

Ms. Gupta said there would be no shortage of budgetary support for the region’s development and directed board members to prioritise projects based on actual needs. Emphasising balanced growth, she said while beautification is important, citizens’ basic needs – such as better roads, drainage systems, prevention of waterlogging, and safe mobility – must take precedence.

“For a long time, the trans-Yamuna region was deprived of development despite its growing population and increasing needs. Concrete efforts are now being made to correct this imbalance,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Lovely said the initial focus will be on improving the condition of roads and drains. “Road construction work in all 16 Assembly constituencies was approved. Funds have also been approved for constituencies represented by AAP MLAs,” he said.
