TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud urged Nizamabad party leaders to take the upcoming municipal elections seriously, saying the party had performed well in the recent Gram Panchayat (GP) polls. “We must sweep the upcoming municipal elections in the district by winning all the municipalities and corporation,” he added. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) held a review meeting for the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency at Gandhi Bhavan to chalk out strategies for the upcoming municipal elections. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud, with Parliamentary constituency in-charge and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, government advisors Mohd. Shabbir Ali and Sudarshan Reddy, former ministers T. Jeevan Reddy and Mandava Venkateswarlu, and several senior leaders in attendance. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud criticised the BJP for politicising religion and urged party workers to counter the alleged conspiracies of the BJP and BRS during the upcoming elections. Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy stressed the need to improve the party’s performance in municipal bodies. “The Congress had won only a few seats in previous municipal elections. It’s crucial to demonstrate the party’s growing strength in the upcoming polls,” he said. Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said the recent GP polls showed better results than the Assembly and Parliament polls, and urged leaders to maintain the same momentum for municipal contests. Former minister T. Jeevan Reddy walked out of the meeting, reportedly upset over being seated next to BRS MLA M. Sanjay Kumar, who had been invited to the meeting. Jeevan Reddy expressed dissatisfaction with the PCC’s conduct, saying he couldn’t digest offering space to a BRS MLA in a Congress internal review meeting. He criticized the leadership, alleging the move went against the principles upheld by Congress senior leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
