File photo of V.V. Rajesh With the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation facing criticism from various quarters over drinking water scarcity, Mayor V.V. Rajesh said that the civic body has made all possible interventions to address the issue. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that a lasting solution to the problem can be found only through a major drinking water supply project with the cooperation of the State and Union governments. “The drinking water projects that the city depends on now were implemented thirty years ago. However the city’s population has gone up since then. The reservoir in Aruvikkara usually goes dry in the monsoon. We need to find alternatives with an eye on the future. The Corporation will make all necessary interventions with the State and Union governments for this. Meanwhile, the Corporation has deployed tankers across the city to tackle the scarcity. A control room functions round-the-clock. Within one hour of councillors or residents’ associations raising the demand, tankers are sent to provide drinking water,” said Mr. Rajesh.
