A stone slab with a carving of a three-headed serpent that was found during excavation in Lakkundi of Gadag district on Thursday. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT Excavation in the ancient village Lakkundi of Gadag district entered the 13th day on Friday. While Friday’s excavation did not yield any relics, a live snake was sighted and captured by the staff before the start of the work. The development, however, spread the story of a “snake guarding a treasure” at the site, a belief which is in circulation from time immemorial. Thursday’s excavation yielded some relics and a few parts of bones. Prominent among the relics found were a stone slab with a carving of a three-headed serpent having a crown. A terracotta token was also found.
