Parappana Agarahara Central Prison | Photo Credit: File Photo Despite heightened security, mobile phones continue to operate in the Parappana Agarahara Central Prison. Six mobile phones and a SIM card were seized during a surprise inspection conducted by prison officials on April 10. This is only the latest in multiple raids that always yield mobile phones without fail. Upset with this, officials are now probing possible lapses in the functioning of the jammers and the role of service providers. Further probe is under way. “A service provider was found to have been increasing the signal strength on and off to provide better connectivity in the region, which seems to have been helping inmates in the prison access network. We have issued a notice to the service provider seeking an explanation and have warned of taking legal action,” he said.
