Rotary Club of Madurai West donated specular microscopy and accessories to Aravind Eye Bank of the Aravind Eye Hospital here on Thursday.

Rotary Club of Madurai West in association with Rotary Club of Fresh Water Bay Australia, with the matching Grant from the Rotary Foundation donated specular microscopy, slit lamp machine, computer system and photocopier worth ₹35 lakh.

It was commissioned by Holger Knaack, Past Rotary International president and Trustee Chairman of the Rotary Foundation in the presence of Rotary International Director Muruganandam, Trustee of TRF, and others.

N. Venkatesh Prajna and M. Srinivasan of Aravind Eye Hospital explained the process of harvesting eyes and checking them for use for patients and also the growth and development of the eye bank which was founded in 1998 with Rotary grant.

The equipment would be used for evaluating the quality of the eye harvest for transplant to a beneficiary.

While Palaniappan president of Rotary Club of Madurai West welcomed the gathering, past district Governor Raja Govindasamy thanked Aravind Eye Hospitals for the opportunity to serve.
