Hyderabad: Renova Hospitals has announced the launch of RIOS – Renova Institute of Onco Sciences, a dedicated institute focused on cancer prevention, early detection, accurate diagnosis, treatment, and long-term survivorship support. RIOS is integrated across Renova’s cancer centres in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Jaipur, functioning as a single, coordinated oncology network to ensure patients experience seamless, well-connected care across the continuum. Conceived as a multidisciplinary cancer institute, RIOS brings together medical, surgical, and radiation oncology, supported by advanced diagnostics, pathology, critical care, rehabilitation, and supportive care services. The institute’s services will be led by a team of senior cancer specialists, including Dr. Srinivas Juluri and Dr. Rajesh Bollam, along with dedicated organ-specific oncology teams. Rising cancer burden and late presentation Oncologists at the launch highlighted that India is witnessing a steady rise in breast, lung, colorectal, head & neck, cervical, and gastrointestinal cancers, with a significant proportion of patients still reaching care at advanced stages. This trend underscores the urgent need for greater awareness and timely screening. Lifestyle-related risk factors such as tobacco use, alcohol consumption, obesity, physical inactivity, and delayed screening, particularly for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers, continue to contribute substantially to the cancer burden. “There is a significant gap between what is possible with modern oncology and what patients actually receive, especially when access is delayed, or treatment is interrupted,” said Dr. Srinivas Juluri. “Our goal is to help patients stay supported through every step. An institute model allows us to coordinate care across specialities and keep the patient at the centre of every decision.” Multidisciplinary, tumour-board–driven care RIOS – Renova Institute of Onco Sciences is structured around multidisciplinary tumour boards, where each patient’s treatment plan is reviewed collaboratively. Complex cases are jointly discussed by medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists, along with radiologists, pathologists, and relevant organ specialists. The institute will offer: Organ-specific clinics for breast, head & neck, lung, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, urological, gynaecological, and bone/soft tissue cancers Standardised diagnostic pathways, including advanced imaging, PET-CT, endoscopy, and biopsy-based staging Individualised treatment plans combining chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and surgery, as appropriate Protocol-based care for haematological malignancies such as lymphomas and leukaemias Day-care facilities for chemotherapy and systemic therapies, designed to improve comfort, reduce unnecessary hospital stays, and support continuity of daily life Comprehensive supportive care, including pain management, nutrition, physiotherapy, psycho-oncology, and palliative care “The tumour board approach ensures that no patient’s treatment rests on a single opinion,” Dr. Juluri added. “Every plan is reviewed by a team, aligned with global guidelines, and adapted to the patient’s clinical and social reality.” Advanced diagnostics and radiation technology RIOS is supported by advanced diagnostic capabilities, including PET-CT, and modern radiation oncology services focused on safety, precision, and patient comfort. Renova’s cancer centres are equipped with image-guided, high-precision radiotherapy systems, including advanced linear accelerators such as Varian TrueBeam STX and Halcyon. These platforms enable the delivery of conformal, high-dose radiation to tumours while minimising exposure to surrounding healthy tissues. The institute follows evidence-based protocols for advanced techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), as available across individual centres. Focus on patient navigation and survivorship A key pillar of RIOS is patient navigation, aimed at reducing missed appointments and treatment delays by helping patients and families manage clinical, financial, emotional, and logistical challenges. Dedicated coordinators will support patients by helping them: Understand their diagnosis, disease stage, and treatment plan Navigate appointments across multiple specialities Access guidance on insurance, government schemes, and hospital support options, where available Stay on schedule with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and follow-up visits Prevention, screening, and community outreach Beyond hospital-based care, RIOS will work closely with Renova Hospitals to strengthen cancer prevention and early detection in the community. Planned initiatives include: Awareness programmes on tobacco cessation, healthy diet, physical activity, and alcohol moderation Screening camps for breast, cervical, and oral cancers in collaboration with local organisations Promotion of breast awareness, including self-examination guidance, clinical breast examinations, and mammography based on age and individual risk Cervical cancer screening through Pap smears and routine preventive health check-ups Education on HPV vaccination for cervical cancer prevention, in line with national guidelines “If we can shift even a portion of our caseload from Stage III–IV to Stage I–II, the impact on survival and quality of life can be substantial—while also reducing the financial toxicity families often face during cancer care,” said Dr. Rajesh Bollam. “RIOS’s role is as much about community-facing prevention as it is about hospital-based treatment.” An integrated oncology hub within the Renova network Speaking on the launch, Mr. Sridhar Peddireddy, Founder & Managing Director, Renova Hospitals, said RIOS represents a key milestone in Renova’s long-term strategy to build organ- and disease-focused institutes across its healthcare network. “Renova Hospitals has invested significantly in dedicated cancer centres, advanced imaging, and modern radiotherapy over the last few years,” he said. “With RIOS – Renova Institute of Onco Sciences, led by specialists such as Dr. Srinivas Juluri and Dr. Rajesh Bollam, we are bringing all these capabilities together into a single, coherent institute model.” RIOS will function as a referral hub for cancer cases from Renova Hospitals across Telangana, Rajasthan, and neighbouring regions, offering structured pathways from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship. National Cancer Prevention Month February is observed as National Cancer Prevention Month, emphasising the importance of awareness, lifestyle modification, and timely screening in reducing cancer risk. In line with this focus, Renova Hospitals offers preventive health counselling and evidence-based cancer screening services across all its cancer centres, supporting early detection and risk assessment as part of the RIOS – Renova Institute of Onco Sciences framework. “This is a company press release that is not part of editorial content.
