The writ petitioners had submitted a representation to the Madras High Court, on its administrative side, on March 26, 2026 requesting for enhancement of the age of superannuation for the judicial officers serving in Tamil Nadu. | Photo Credit: FILE PHOTO A proposal to increase the age of superannuation of judicial officers (magistrates, munsifs, sub judges, sessions judges and district judges) serving in Tamil Nadu from 60 to 61 or 62 is under consideration and most probably, a positive decision would be taken in due course, said Madras High Court Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari on Monday (April 27, 2026). He made the oral observation while presiding over the first Division Bench along with Justice G. Arul Murugan. The Bench was hearing a writ petition filed jointly by four judicial officers who were serving in different districts of Tamil Nadu and were on the verge of retirement from service on attaining the present age of superannuation of 60 years in a year or two.
