The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court in Madurai on Thursday acquitted 56 persons who were booked by the police during the 2017 pro-jallikattu protest in Alanganallur in Madurai district. Sessions Judge R. Joseph Joy acquitted the 56 persons of all charges. In January 2017, people took part in the protest seeking the immediate revocation of the ban on conducting jallikattu. Continuous pro-jallikattu protests were held in Madurai and across the State. The CB-CID had conducted the probe in the case.
