The State government plans to introduce Buddha Basava Ambedkar Site Allotment Scheme to provide housing sites to homeless poor from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities, Minister Satish Jarkiholi said in Belagavi on Tuesday.

“The State government has approved a pilot project to identify, develop and distribute plots on government land to address the shortage of houses for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes community people who are homeless. Till now, the State government used to provide agricultural land to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. But, now-a-days, due to increasing urbanization and rising land prices, it has become impossible for ordinary poor families to purchase plots to build their own houses,” the Minister told reporters after the Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations.
