A total of 4,05,357 Pongal gift hampers have been distributed through ration shops across Kanniyakumari district up to Saturday. According a press statement issued by Kanniyakumari district administration, the district has 5,80,073 ration card holders including 406 Sri Lankan Tamil families residing in rehabilitation camps in the district. A total of 2,67,038 Pongal gift hampers have been distributed until Friday. On Saturday, 37, 590 hampers were given to ration card holders in Agasteeswaram taluk, 9,340 in Thovalai takuk, 31,345 in Kalkulam taluk, 14,015 in Thiruvattar taluk, 23,189 in Killiyoor taluk, and 22,840 in Vilavancode taluk, bringing the overall distribution to 70% of the total ration card holders in the district . The distribution work is being continuously monitored by flying squad officers, revenue department officials and other department officials headed by Kanniyakumari district Collector R. Alagumeena.
