Nithin Over 1,700 two-wheeler riders were booked by the Kochi City police in the past one week for not wearing helmets as the police intensified enforcement as part of a State-wide special drive. The week-long special drive exposed widespread violations, underscoring persistent gaps in road safety compliance despite repeated awareness campaigns. A total of 1,716 violations were detected from different parts of the city police limits during the campaign named ‘Helmet on Safe Drive’, conducted from April 20 to 26. The initiative comes amid rising concerns over road accidents in urban areas, where two-wheelers account for a significant share of fatalities.
