Telangana’s parliamentary map is set for a major rehaul with the Centre’s delimitation exercise increasing the number of Lok Sabha constituencies from 17 to 26. Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed in the Lok Sabha that the State’s tally will rise to 26 with complete reorganisation of boundaries. According to the 2011 Census, Telangana’s population was 3.50 crore, including 54.08 lakh Scheduled Castes and 31.77 lakh Scheduled Tribes. This entitlement translates into 179 Assembly seats, with 26 reserved for SCs and 16 for STs. Each Lok Sabha constituency will have seven Assembly segments. As a result, SC parliamentary constituencies will rise to four and ST constituencies to – two.
