Rajakannappan on Sunday inaugurated the eighth book festival organised at Raja Higher Secondary School playground here. Speaking at the event, he said, “In accordance with the orders of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, book exhibitions are held every year. It is being conducted with excellence, not merely as a book exhibition, but as a festival. The main reason for this is the immense reception from students, readers, and the general public.” The purpose of the book fairs was to increase the reading habit among everyone, from children to adults, he added. “In this book exhibition arena, 100 stalls have been set up, and books of historical significance have been brought through leading publishing houses. Not only that, training workshops, a planetarium, and quiz competitions for students are being conducted so that students can benefit. By participating in these, students’ skills will improve,” Mr. Rajakannappan noted. Furthermore, the book festival, starting from Sunday would continue for 11 days until February 4. Cultural programmes by students would be held in the morning and evening, and seminars by eminent educationists and speakers are held in the evening. The general public, readers, and students should participate in large numbers to increase learning and benefit, he appealed. “When a person reads a book completely, it is useful not only to understand its concepts but also to clarify doubts within it. Keeping this in mind, the Government of Tamil Nadu has ordered and is conducting book exhibitions in every district every year,” he stated. The event organised by the district administration, School Education Department, Directorate of Public Libraries, and the Arts and Literature Enthusiasts Association was presided over by District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon.
