SDPI members holds a rally to honour the newly-elected members of the party’s National Executive Committee, in Mangaluru, on January 21, 2026. M. K. Faizy or K. Moideen Kutty was re-elected as the national president of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) at the party’s two-day sixth national representative council meeting which ended here on Wednesday. Mr. Faizy was re-elected in his absence, as presently he is in jail after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in Delhi in March, 2025 on money laundering charges in connection with a case against banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI). Former Member of Rajya Sabha and vice-president of All India Muslim Personal Law Board Obaidullah Khan Azmi, who was the Election Officer, announced the list of new national body comprising 16 office bearers and 29 executive committee members, here on Wednesday. Speaking at a press conference later, the acting national president and national vice-president of the party, Mohammad Shafi said that the national representative council resolved that the arrest of Mr. Faizy is “undemocratic” and the arrest is to suppress the voice of minorities and leaders from marginalised sectors, farmers and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The SDPI condemned it. The council passed resolution that the Union government is misusing its official machineries such as NIA, CBI and ED. The government is even misusing UAPA. The SDPI expressed concern over SIR, stating that it has hit several voters. The party workers later took out a procession from Ambedkar Circle to the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall, where the party held a felicitation programme to the newly-elected office bearers.
