Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticised the Opposition’s boycott of the fifth Loka Kerala Sabha which got under way here on Friday.

Deploring the continued opposition towards the forum, he claimed that the sabha enjoys wide public acceptance among people in Kerala as well as the diaspora.

“As part of the campaign, we have had to hear unfair and inappropriate criticism at times, even directed against those participating in the Loka Kerala Sabha. It is difficult to understand why some people come forward with opposition and disagreement against the event. The reason behind such hostility is hard to comprehend,” he said.

Despite such adversities, the initiative has been witnessing greater support over time. The people of Kerala and the global Keralite community have understood the relevance of the forum through experience and are not prepared to dismiss it. Notably, the Central government has urged the other States to treat Kerala’s Loka Kerala Sabha as a model for engaging with expatriate communities and has advised them to consider adopting similar mechanisms, Mr. Vijayan added.
