Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials on Sunday (January 11, 2026) initiated a massive drive to clean vacant lands in the city. Led by KMC Commissioner P. Viswanatha, the second phase of the special drive was taken up at nearly 250 vacant lands where 15 earth movers were used to clear bushes and debris.

Mr. Viswanatha flagged off the earth movers at Bellary Chowrasta in the city. Around 127 vacant plots in the 7th, 12th, and 14th sanitation divisions, along with other vacant lands totaling 250, were cleared of bushes during the drive.

Mr. Viswanatha inspected the cleanliness drive at Shaeen Nagar and Venkataramana Colony, supervising the cleaning process. At Venkataramana Colony, a vacant plot was filled with bushes and garbage, and the vacant land tax had not been paid by the owner despite three notices. Mr. Viswanatha instructed the sanitation and engineering officials to clean the premises and utilise the land for the Corporation’s requirements.

In the adjacent land, the Commissioner found construction and demolition waste, along with hazardous waste, dumped by a hospital management, and directed officials to submit proposals for the cancellation of the hospital’s trade licence.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Viswanatha said that the piling up of garbage and also indiscriminate growth of bushes is showing an adverse impact on the health of the people in the city. “The breeding of mosquitoes will lead to seasonal diseases, and the growth of bushes and shrubs will result in the breeding of snakes,” he said, adding that cleaning vacant places is a top priority.

He asked the owners of the vacant plots to keep their land clean or else notices will be issued and penalties imposed against violators. Action as per law will also be taken, if necessary, he said.
