The Barke police have arrested a 44-year-old Madikeri resident allegedly involved in 12 crimes, including seven theft cases of bags of passengers travelling in KSRTC buses.

The police gave name of the accused as N.M. Mohammed Imran of Tyagaraj Colony in Madikeri town. The police have recovered 46.28 gram of gold ornaments worth ₹ 6.47 lakh and ₹ 5,000 cash from the accused.

A complaint was registered on January 23 at the Barke Police station about theft of a trolley bag related to two adults and a senior citizen seated in a KSRTC bus in the KSRTC bus stand at 7 p.m. The police went through CCTV footage and gathered physical evidence to trace the accused.

A team headed by Police Sub-Inspector Vinayak Toragal traced and arrested Imran near Mangaluru Central Railway Station on Wednesday. He was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate on Thursday, who remanded the accused to judicial custody for 15 days.

In a press note, the police said Imran was accused in a total of seven cases of theft of bags of KSRTC bus passengers. Apart from the case registered in Barke Police Station, a theft case each was registered in Dudda, Konanur, Hassan Extension, Hassan City police stations, all in Hassan District and in Channarayapatna and Mysuru’s Devaraja Police Stations.

He was also accused in two house theft cases registered in Hassan Extension police station and a house theft case each registered in Shantigrama and Dudda Police Stations of Hassan District.

In one house theft case in Hassan district, Imran failed to appear before the jurisdictional court after obtaining bail and the court issued non-bailable warrant against him, the police stated.
