MOORTHY In the first elections held after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the launch of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, most constituencies across the central region recorded a high voter turnout in the Assembly election on Thursday. An attack on a Naam Tamilar Katchi woman candidate at Papanasam constituency and the stabbing of a policeman, reportedly due to personal enmity in Poompuhar Assembly segment triggered some tension in the region. Barring the two incidents, polling largely peaceful in all 41 Assembly constituencies in the nine districts of Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Karur, Perambalur, and Ariyalur in the region.
