The Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone, on Thursday arrested a gym trainer for allegedly procuring and selling steroid injections without a valid licence or medical prescription and seized drugs and other material worth about ₹1.20 lakh.

The accused, Rashid Matlub Khan, 40, a resident of Natraj Nagar, was working as a gym trainer and was taken into custody while he was allegedly carrying steroid injection vials in the area. Police said he was involved in the illegal sale of Mephentermine Sulphate injections, which are commonly misused for rapid muscle gain.

During the operation, the Task Force seized 100 vials of Mephentermine Sulphate injections, each of 30 mg strength. Officials said the accused had no authorisation to procure or sell the drugs and was supplying them to customers at inflated prices.

Investigators said Rashid Matlub Khan had earlier been absconding in a case registered at Attapur police station and had also figured in previous cases registered at Abids Road and Tappachabutra police stations.

During questioning, he reportedly told the police that he had ordered the steroid injections online from a supplier in Surat through a courier, using his wife’s name, Farzana Begum, and was selling them to gym-goers and others seeking quick muscle growth.

Police said the misuse of such injections, particularly among youth, poses serious health risks and can lead to addiction and long-term complications. Persons who had consumed the drugs were counselled and advised to seek treatment from qualified medical practitioners.
