Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA from Huzurabad, Padi Kaushik Reddy, was booked by the Huzurabad police for allegedly abusing and obstructing the police from performing their duty.

The police have registered an FIR against Mr. Reddy under sections 189 (3), 126 (2), 132, 299, 196, 351 (2) r/w 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

This follows a sit-in protest staged by Mr. Reddy along with his family members and followers on the highway in Huzurabad town around Thursday (January 29, 2026) noon after being prevented from heading to his native Veenavanka to attend the annual Sammakka-Saralamma Maha Jatara.

The police reportedly cited specific instructions not to allow a large convoy of vehicles to the Jatara to prevent overcrowding and maintain law and order.

Peeved over this, Mr. Reddy and his followers entered into a verbal spat with the police following which the police dispersed the protesters from the middle of the road.

Late in the evening the same day, a commotion prevailed at the altar (gadde), dedicated to goddess Sammakka, at the Jatara site in Veenavanka when Mr. Reddy had a heated argument with the police.

He alleged that the woman sarpanch of the village was not allowed to offer coconut at the altar, a charge the police denied. Amid jostling, he was whisked away and shifted to the Saidapur police station in a police vehicle by a posse of police personnel. He was let off later.

Sources added that the long simmering differences between the followers of Mr. Reddy and one of the key members of the Jatara organising committee further intensified coinciding with the ongoing Jatara.
