With 692 lives lost in the attacks of wild animals in 10 years between 2015-16 and 2024-25, negative interactions between humans and wild animals remain a burning issue in the poll-bound Tamil Nadu.

The situation is severe in western Tamil Nadu districts – The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal and Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri. Negative interactions between humans and wild animals are also on the rise in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Theni and Dindigul districts connected to the southern Western Ghats.
