CPI(M) members on Friday staged a protest against the alleged detention of their leaders, who were on their way to meet the farmers of Tarluvada, who had given their lands for the establishment of the Google Data Centre in Anandapuram mandal in the city on April 23. Condemning the detentions, CPI(M) leaders K. Lokanadham and ex-corporator, B. Ganga Rao said that they would obstruct the foundation ceremony for the Google Data Centre on April 28, if compensation and house sites are not provided to the affected farmers. They said that the government must honour the promises made to landowners, assigned landholders, and cultivators at the time of land acquisition in Tarluvada. They accused the government of facilitating land allocation without transparency, and demanded a white paper on such allocations.
