Calcutta, April 19: A serious situation has arisen out of the strikes of weavers of the India Jate Mills, Serampore on Thursday last. Following the example of these men, the workers of the Augus Anglo-India Alliance and Alexandra Mills in the districts of Hooghly and the Twenty-four Parganas have gone on strike on the question of wages and working hours, thus rendering about 30,000 men idle. It is reported that the Head-Clerk of the Angus Jute Mills at Bhagdreswar was seriously assaulted by the strikers as he was suspected to have had much to do with the reduction of wages, and that the Mill building was damaged to a certain extent.
