Another massive fire was reported in the Parsons Valley Range in the Nilgiris on Monday | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement Major fires in two forest ranges in the Nilgiris forest division – in the Pykara and Parsons Valley – have largely been brought under control, with Forest department staff, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire and rescue services personnel, spending the past few days battling the flames. Officials from the Pykara and Parsons Valley ranges estimated that the fire could have affected more than 150 hectares of forest area, but added that a more accurate figure could be revealed only once the fires were fully extinguished.
