A forest fire broke out near Pattipadi village in Yercaud on Tuesday (April 28, 2026) night, destroying about five acres of forest land. The hill station has been experiencing intense heat over the past few weeks, resulting in dry vegetation and brittle tree branches. With dry leaves carpeting the forest floor, the fire spread rapidly. On receiving information, Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and battled the blaze for nearly two hours before bringing it under control. No casualties were reported. However, several trees, herbs, plants and creepers were destroyed in the fire.
