Wreckage of a utility pickup vehicle after it fell into a deep gorge, in Uttarakhand on Thursday (April 23, 2026). | Photo Credit: PTI Eight people died on Thursday (April 23, 2026) afternoon when a vehicle carrying them veered off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, according to the police. The victims were returning home after attending a cremation when the accident occurred near the Chamba–Koti stretch. Officials said the vehicle fell nearly 300 metres into the gorge. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Alkesh Naudiyal said 10 occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the accident. While eight people died, two others were injured.
