Ramakrishnan, 56, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), died while he was on election duty in Dindigul district on Thursday. The officer, who was attached to the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau in Ramanathapuram district, was posted on election duty in Oddanchatram Assembly constituency in Dindigul. On Thursday, when he and the flying squad were at Idayakottai polling station, he was said to have complained of uneasiness. Immediately, the police personnel rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors declared him ‘brought dead’. Later, the body was sent to the Government Hospital in Dindigul. Dindigul Election Officer and Collector S Saravanan, DIG of Police (Dindigul Range) Sasi Mohan, Superintendent of Police Pradeep and other officers paid their last respects. The family members were consoled by the officers.
