The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, has seized 70 metric tonnes of Chinese-origin firecrackers on Monday, 20 April — smuggled into India and arrested two persons. The seizure, valued at₹17.07 crore, was made from four containers at Nhava Sheva Port under an operation codenamed “Pyro Heist”. The consignments were declared as other goods to evade customs inspection. The accused had attempted to move the firecrackers from the imported containers to another vehicle at a Container Freight Station (CFS) after breaking the container seals. DRI officers caught them during the transfer.
