A mob damaging a public water supply, allegedly instigated by a DMK functionary, and the arrest of the DYFI’s Krishnagiri district secretary in a pre-dawn move after he exposed the vandalism revealed the fault lines on the ground between key political allies. It has also exposed police bungling up a straight-up case of vandalism, with a counter-complaint against the DYFI activist.

On Sunday (April 26, 2026), a mob allegedly instigated by Perumal, the spouse of ex-panchayat president of Karadigoundanur panchayat in Samalpatty, and a DMK functionary, vandalised the pipeline and a 1,000-litre mini tank supplying water to over 30 families in the neighbouring Didirkuppam. The mob alleged that the pipeline was illegally connected by the DYFI’s district secretary, Illavarasan, to his house.
