NEW DELHI, April 17, 2026 — In a significant development in favour of Toprankers Edtech Solutions Private Limited (LegalEdge) and CLAT 2026 AIR-1 Geetali Gupta, the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi has passed an ad-interim order. The Court has restrained LPT Edtech Private Limited (Law Prep Tutorial) and its associated persons from using the name, identity, or images of Geetali Gupta; and from publishing or circulating any defamatory content against LegalEdge. The order was passed by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tushar Rao Gedela on April 13, 2026, in CS(COMM) 344/2026. The present proceedings were instituted by LegalEdge and Geetali (Plaintiffs) against LPT EdTech Private Limited, Mr. Sagar Joshi and others (Defendants). Submissions of Plaintiffs- It was stated that Geetali had been part of LegalEdge “CLAT 2026 | Champions batch I” and had actively participated in its year-long structured coaching programme, while her association with Law Prep Tutorial was limited. After the declaration of the CLAT 2026 results, Law Prep Tutorial approached the student and her family with an offer to sponsor her entire five-year college fees in order to exclusively portray her as its student; however, the same was refused. When her family refused, Law Prep Tutorial unleashed a coordinated and malicious online campaign against Legal Edge and Geetali. It was also stated that mala fide defamatory content was disseminated through a YouTube video titled “CLAT 2026 AIR 1 Geetali Gupta Controversy Exposed”, a blog titled “LegalEdge- Law Prep Controversy: Truth of AIR-1 CLAT 2026”, LinkedIn content, and subsequent social media and news publications. When LegalEdge issued a cease-and-desist notice, Law Prep Tutorial got an FIR registered at Jodhpur on January 6, 2026 against LegalEdge’s directors, Geetali Gupta, and her father. The Hon’ble High Court of Rajasthan at Jodhpur subsequently stayed the FIR. Undeterred, Defendants continued their online campaign regardless, publishing fresh defamatory content. Geetali publicly credited her success to LegalEdge. Further, despite Geetali’s refusal to law Prep Tutorial they continued to use her name and morphed/AI-generated images on digital, print and social media in their advertisement campaigns. Further, AI-generated deepfakes falsely depicting LegalEdge’s directors behind bars were disseminated by defendants. What Delhi High Court Observed? The Hon’ble Delhi High Court in its order observed, at the prima facie stage, that the blogs, posts, screenshots and reels appeared disparaging and appear to be an attempt to bring disrepute to the goodwill and reputation garnered by the LegalEdge over the last many years. The Court observed that it appears that the Law Prep Tutorial and Sagar Joshi have indeed, prima facie, carried out a defamatory campaign which appears to be disparaging and is clearly avoidable. The statements appear to be made wilfully to bring disrepute to the goodwill, reputation and standing of Legal Edge and would constitute disparagement. Critically, the Court observed that that once Geetali had publicly credited her success to LegalEdge and asked the Law Prep Tutorials to stop, Law Prep Tutorial’s continued campaign was inappropriate The Court further observed that references to the Geetali, including her AI-generated photographs and content associating her with Law Prep Tutorial, appeared unjustified. The Court issued the following orders to protect the rights of LegalEdge and Geetali Gupta: 1. Law Prep Tutorial, its directors, employees, associates are restrained from creating, publishing, sharing any defamatory or derogatory content against LegalEdge. 2. Law Prep Tutorial, is restrained from using Geetali Gupta’s images, content, and advertisements in her name, including all social and digital media posts and photographs generated by Artificial Intelligence or otherwise. 3.
