Shivakumar on Sunday said the BJP had moved the bill hastily and without broader consultation with the Opposition. “When amending the Constitution, everyone should have been taken into confidence. The Women’s Reservation Act is Congress’s dream. It was the Congress that had worked in favour of the Act,” the Deputy Chief Minister told presspersons here. He said, “It is a victory for democracy. The Congress and the INDIA bloc stand in solidarity with women. In a democratic system, discussions should have been held with Opposition parties. What was the need to bring it at a time when elections are ongoing? The decision made now by the BJP government is not the right time.” He also decried attempts — through the Bill — by the BJP to allegedly reduce representation from the South and increase representation in the North. “This cannot be tolerated. They should have called all of us and held discussions.” Published – April 19, 2026 06:18 pm IST Share this: Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Click to share on Threads (Opens in new window) Threads Click to share on X (Opens in new window) X Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Click to email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email More Click to print (Opens in new window) Print Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window) Pocket Click to share on Mastodon (Opens in new window) Mastodon Click to share on Nextdoor (Opens in new window) Nextdoor Click to share on Bluesky (Opens in new window) Bluesky Like this:Like Loading...
