Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making a “U-turn” on the implementation of the women’s reservation law, the Congress on Monday (April 6, 2026) said the Prime Minister was attempting to use the issue for electoral gains ahead of Assembly elections in several States.

Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said the Prime Minister, while campaigning in Assam, had appealed for unanimous support to the women’s reservation legislation during the special session of Parliament, even though the measure had already been passed unanimously in 2023.
