Senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday accused the BJP of attempting to amend the Constitution and said the timing of the proposed Parliament session had raised concerns. Campaigning at Surampatti in support of DMK candidate S. Muthusamy in the Erode (West) Assembly constituency, he referred to the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar and said the debate on amending the Constitution had gained significance. He noted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi undertook a nationwide march holding a copy of the Constitution, and claimed that the DMK and its allies won in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the Lok Sabha elections to safeguard constitutional values.
