A female black panther will be released into an enclosure at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (April 21, 2026), ending a 40-year gap since the species was last on display at the zoo.

The panther was brought from the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden in Guwahati last month under an inter-zoo exchange programme. The formal release will be done by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force P.V. Chalapathi Rao at 9.30 a.m. at the park, Zoo authorities announced in an Instagram post on Monday, (April 20, 2026).
