Ayurvedic drug manufacturers have sought a separate department in Kerala for their branch of medicine on the lines of the Union Ayush Ministry. This demand comes ahead of the declaration of the Assembly poll results in the State on May 4 and the formation of a new government. In a letter to leaders of major political parties, Ayurvedic Medicine Manufacturers Organisation of India (AMMOI) general secretary D. Ramanathan said that modern medicine and other systems of medicine were under the same department at present. Even the Deputy Drugs Controller for Ayurveda was under the State Drugs Controller, who was in-charge of modern medicine drugs.
